Underrated cafes in Auckland

One of the best things about the tshirts are that they are so comfy. No bra, no worries. Feel like you’re looking a bit more potbellied today? The shirt doesn’t show it.

It’s cut to be extremely comfortable yet stylish, that it can take you from lying on your bed in your underwear to at a caféwith some jeans and sunnies on while making you look like the best dressed there.

Speaking of cafes, there are a few spots that we find are underrated in Auckland for a little coffee and brunchie. Nothing makes you feel more like a millennial or Gen Z than the emotional calmness that a $6 flat white and little peruse of brunch menu brings.

With so many cafes in Auckland, here are our suggestions for some underrated, tasty and good value cafes that we suggest!

West Auckland

Tsrang Label is based in West Auckland, so we’ve been to plenty. However, over the last few years many of them have been closing or changing ownership that some of the stand out ones are now gone.

Hills Café – Central/West in Hillsborough

crepes, fries and french toast at Hills Cafe, Auckland

Hills Café is actually in Hillsborough, but this is the café that inspired the article (sidenote: Zomato has closed down?). It doesn’t look like much on the inside or outside but the food is GOOD, cheap and great portions. An absolute beast of a menu, with crepes and French inspired meals to all the classic brunch options. Such great value for money, and such a pleasant surprise when the food
comes out. A great place for hungover eats or times when you don’t feel up to spending money or bumping into people you know (or people your age).

Caffeine and Book Dealers – Glen Eden

It’s a dreamy bookstore that serves great coffee and little eats: if you’ve ever harboured a secret fantasy to run away and open a book store, this one will make you eat your heart out. The owner is super nice!!

Central Auckland

Dear Jane – Mt Albert

It’s along a very suburban street, and always buzzing because it’s so good. This is also the site of where I bumped into my friend (and also photographer of Tsrang Label) wearing a Tsrang Label tshirt while I was also wearing a Tsrang Label hoodie! It was the best day. Watch the magical moment here.
I really like the fried chicken burger. It’s like a gourmet KFC burger.

North Shore

Plumm Café - Takapuna

Plumm Café has fried chicken on charcoal waffles and a back garden. I repeat: a back garden. Sitting in an outdoor-ish space just changes the brunching game.
The tasty food and great portions also help immensely: rarely does a brunch produce the need for a takeaway carton, but their fried chicken waffles did!

South Auckland

If you’re out South, brunch is not the star of the show. There is so much epic food out South – iconic pho from Try It Out, Yan Brothers for amazing rice rolls, even Manaia Seafood Boil in Onehunga. Time cannot be wasted on coffee!

East Auckland

I’m going to be honest.
I’ve never had anything but Pakuranga night markets and fish and chips out east. Café recommendations are needed ASAP.

Let us know if there are any cafes that you think actually deserve a spot on this list on @tsranglabel on Instagram, Facebook and Tiktok!
